Today, in the Writer's Almanac, Garrison Keillor let me know that it's Dennis Lehane's birthday. As I've mentioned elsewhere, it was Lehane's Mystic River that introduced me to modern crime fiction. From there, I discovered George Pelecanos (in the form of his Derek Strange novels) and, later, the novels from Hard Case Crime.
Happy birthday, Mr. Lehane. I hope you have a good one. And I'm looking very forward to your new novel, The Given Day.
