After reading the responses to the recent reading meme that went around the net (here are my answers), I was surprised to discover I am in the minority when it comes to writing in books. I share my thoughts on why I do it over at Do Some Damage.

When I was a kid, the thought of writing in a book appalled me.
Now, as an adult, I have no hesitation to underline or make notes. I think it helps me in understanding what's being written, and, in an odd way, I feel closer to the text and the author.
Buck - I agree with you. And, for me, I still have a huge aversion to writing in comic books. Novels and books, not at all. I wonder why the disconnect for me? I think it goes to what you say: it helps me under the books I read.
