I've loved "Lost" since halfway through the first season (never seen the pilot BTW). I've delved into the mythology and talked over the water cooler with friends about every little nuance.
Since I've never written about it here, I'm not going to start now. And I'm not going to give away anything. But let me say this: for all the terrific acting in the finale, the moments where my wife and I teared up (more than once), it was Michael Giacchino's musical score that really hit a grand slam. For most of the six seasons, his minimalist score echoed the uncertainty of the story, the mysteries, the unknown. Tonight, as things fell into places and characters had their "enlightenment," his music soared with a lush beauty that propelled the story forward. I absolutely loved the music tonight.
Bravo, Mr. Giacchino!

I have to say I agree 100%. I can't get the music out of my head. I keep playing it back in my mind. And in fact, mostly because of the music and the "awakening" moments between the couples, I've now watched the last 30 min five times through. I was just doing a Google search to see where I could download the music and found your post. Cool...
I remember early in the shows run the creators and writers (Abrams, Lindelof, and Cuse) were saying that the story was epic so they didn't want to shortchange the score by using synthesized instruments they wanted the whole score to be done orchestrally. And given the ratings the show got early on, that move was green-lighted.
I thoroughly enjoyed the finale. I've talked to others about it and there seems to have been some disappointment but I think much of the criticism comes from a lack of answers to what I consider to be minutae. All of the "big" questions were answered, imho. The answers to the smaller questions were at the discretion of the individual viewer's interpretation.
